i had forgotten all about it My mum was talking to me yesterday about the problem with my skin. At fist it was ok, but now the itch is starting up again. I found out online that, its not possible to completely cure it for now. The doctor says its in me, most probably due to heredity, so all i have to do is to just control it. Its called Eczema. "Eczema is a general term encompassing various inflamed skin conditions. One of the most common forms of eczema is atopic dermatitis (or "atopic eczema"). " What does eczema look and feel like? "Although eczema may look different from person to person, it is most often characterized by dry, red, extremely itchy patches on the skin. Eczema is sometimes referred to as "the itch that rashes," since the itch, when scratched, results in the appearance of the rash." Who gets eczema? "Eczema occurs in both children and adults, but usually appears during infancy. Although there is no known cause for the disease, it often affects people with a family history of allergies. Those who are genetically predisposed and then exposed to environmental triggers may develop eczema." Then suddenly, my mum mentions about the fact that since i was born i already had Thalassemia minor. Its not a very serious thing, since mine is only a minor. "Thalassemia Minor or Thalassemia Trait. In this condition, the lack of beta protein is not great enough to cause problems in the normal functioning of the hemoglobin. A person with this condition simply carries the genetic trait for thalassemia and will usually experience no health problems other than a possible mild anemia. As in mild alpha thalassemia, physicians often mistake the small red blood cells of the person with beta thalassemia minor as a sign of iron-deficiency anemia and incorrectly prescribe iron supplements." And she also mentioned that when i get married, my husband to be would need to go for a blood test. That was when i realised i had forgotten ALL about it. haha..wonder what could have happened if my mum didn't remind me beforehand.. "Hematologists have identified the marriage of two Thalassemia minor people as the major cause of the spread of the illness as their newborn in most of the cases was found to be a patient of Thalassemia major. " "Thalassemia Major or Cooley's Anemia. This is the most severe form of beta thalassemia in which the complete lack of beta protein in the hemoglobin causes a life-threatening anemia that requires regular blood transfusions and extensive ongoing medical care. These extensive, lifelong blood transfusions lead to iron-overload which must be treated with chelation therapy to prevent early death from organ failure." Thus, i can't marry a thalassemia minor man.ahahaha.. Eczema and thalassemia minor. Pls dont think im telling u all this to ask for sympathy. Since this is how it is, i will just accept it. I just realised i have such an interesting life. woo-hoo.. |
